There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of amenities on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
